Tips & Tricks for Traveling With Your Baby

Summer is winding down in our part of the world, and while the season of summer vacations are coming to a close. However, if you’ve got a baby on the way or recently brought a new little life into the world, it doesn’t mean you can never vacation again!

Planning baby-friendly vacations requires just that - planning, and A LOT of it. While a vacation with a newborn may not look the same as it did before, there’s still plenty of fun to be had for the whole family!

Choose the Right Destination and Accomodations:

Opt for destinations with a relatively short travel time to minimize the baby's discomfort during transit. Consider places with a mild climate and comfortable accommodations, especially if you need amenities like a crib or a separate room for the baby. Make sure wherever you choose, you can either bring your own, or they have the accommodations you’ll need to try and keep your routine as close to normal as possible!

Timing and Duration:

Plan activities and outings around your baby's schedule, including nap times and feeding times. Consider shorter trips if it's your baby's first vacation to gauge how well they adjust to new environments and have an out if things prove to be too much for your little one.

Transportation:

If flying, check the airline's policies on traveling with infants and inquire about bassinets or special seating - most will help make sure you and your whole family, baby included, are comfortable! If driving, plan for frequent stops and have a well-stocked diaper bag within easy reach - toys, snacks, and other distractions can be a life saver on a longer drive!

Activities and Sightseeing:

Opt for baby-friendly activities such as visiting parks, beaches, and family-friendly attractions. Keep activities flexible to accommodate your baby's needs and moods, and make sure it’s an easy trek back to where you’re staying in case you need to get back to some quiet time.

Ask for help:

Bring an in-law or two! Ask a sibling or a friend to tag along! It truly takes a village, and if you are feeling nervous being alone or with only your partner to help, especially if your partner will be focused on something like a business meeting and not readily accessible or available, lean on those around you!

Remember, the goal of a baby-friendly vacation is to create a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone. With thoughtful planning and a relaxed approach, you can have a memorable vacation that caters to the needs of your little one while still enjoying your time away!
